No Ice on Iceland / No hay hielo en Islandia
Conforme bajaba la velocidad del avion y me despertaba lentamente, miré por la ventana y vi abajo una superficie muy blanca. No, no era nieve y Nicholas me hacía ver con un tono risueño que era lo que había señalado, "esas son nubes, hombre."
Mientras terminé de despertarme, aterrizamos en la Islandia verdadera. Tal como luego leí en el Servicio de Restauración de la Tierra, la descripción local de Islandia es "un país volcánico con un nombre friolento". Sin nieve :( Es mucho más frío que Canadá, pero este es más el tipo de clima que esperaba encontrar, así es que no está tan mal.
Llegamos cerca de las seis de la mañana pero tuvimos algunos problemas con las maletas y nos retrasamos un poco; luego tomamos un camión al pueblito donde nos estamos quedando, a dos horas de distancia. Comparado con la ciudad de México, este lugar está completamente abandonado. La población total de 300,000 seguramente es menos que la que hay en Tlalpan. Desayunamos, luego vino el almuerzo y después de eso, regresamos al SRT. Hacía frío y estaba sucio. Aprendí mucho y comí pastel de chocolate en abundancia. Regresamos a la cabaña para la cena y después de eso pasamos el rato hasta ahora.
El problema es que mañana, después de visitar la Laguna Azul, subiremos al barco, así es que esta es la última actualización que seguro recibirán. Deséenme suerte y sigan leyendo este blog y los que estaremos subiendo en la página de Cape Farewell.
As the plane slowed down and I slowly awoke, I looked through the window and saw a white surface below. No, it wasnt snow, and Nicholas, with a laughing tone responded to what I had pointed out "Those are clouds, man."
As I finished waking up, we landed on the real Iceland. As I later read on the Soil Restoration Service, the local description of Iceland is "a volcanic country with a chilling name". No snow :( It is way colder than Canada, but this is more the kind of weather I was expecting, so it is not so bad. We arrived at around six in the morning, but we had some trouble with the bags and ran a bit late; then we took a coach bus to the little town where we are staying, 2 hours away. Compared to Mexico City, this place is abandoned. The total population of 300,000 is probably smaller than the one at Tlalpan. We had breakfast and lunch and after that, we went to the soil centre. It was cool and I saw dirt. I learned a lot and I had really good chocolate cake. We were back at the cabin for dinner and after that we just hung out until now. The problem is that tomorrow, after visiting the Blue Lagoon, we will go on the ship, so this is the last post I can be sure you will get. Hola!! Nos la hemos pasado inceible estos dias. Hemos estado haciendo muchas actividades, conociendonos, haciendo amigos, aprendiendo un poco de otros idiomas, tomando fotos y videos y divirtiendonos. Ayer fuimos al “Ontario Science Center” a oir gente hablar sobre el viaje pasado y este viaje, nos entrevisto alguien de una estacion de radio y periodico canadiense que tenia una seccion en espanol.
Hoy partimos hacia Islandia a las 9 de la tarde (8 de la tarde en mexico) y llegamos mañana en la mañana. Bueno, hay gente esperando esta computadora y ya me tarde mucho, jeje.

Hey guys this is George from Ireland JP asked me to write this so... yeah hello from Toronto!
We are not MIA / No Estamos Perdidos
Estos dos días pasados han sido súper cansados, atareados y gratificantes. Estoy lleno de picaduras de mosquitos y empapandome de la mayor cantidad de informacion posible, pues hemos andado de un taller a otro y lentamente, conociendonos mejor entre todos. El lunes finalmente todos los estudiantes llegaron aquí y uno a uno nos fuimos saludando y haciendo amigos. Fue raro, pero todo el mundo estaba tan emcionado que empezamos a hablar de volada y los que eran un poco mas timidos, se han ido adaptando los días siguientes. Eso fue el primer día, el segundo, los 28 nos dividimos en 4 categorías científicas distintas, que pueden ver en la página oficial y tuvimos talleres de arte, ciencia, video y fotografia. Hoy tuvimos un entrenamiento en medios y estamos a punto de ir a MaRS, que no estoy todavía muy deguro de qué es, pero les platico en los próximos dias. La buena noticia es que ya conseguí mis botas de hule el dia de ayer en una tienda llamada Canadian Tire (Llanta Canadiense), la mala como ya lo habràn descubierto, es que no voy a poder escribir diariamente, pero les prometo que lo haré tan seguido como sea posible, especialmente en el barco por las limitaciones de conexión a Internet. Bueno, mil gracias por sus comentarios y por favor, no dejen de seguirnos. También les recomiendo que no dejen de consultar la página oficial de Cape Farewell pues ahí siempre va a haber más fotos y comentarios de todos.

These past two days have been very tiring, busy and gratifying. Filled with mosquito bites and soaking as much information as possible we have been in workshop after workshop, slowly getting to know each other better. Monday all the students finally got here, and one by one wee greeted them and instantly began bonding. It was weird but everyone was so excited we started talking within minutes, and the ones that were a bit more shy have opened themselves in the next days. That was the first day, the second day, the 28 of us got divided in the 4 different science categories which you can see on the official page, and we had the arts, science, video and photography workshops. Today we did media training and we are about to go to MaRS, which Im not yet sure what that it is but Ill tell you in the next couple of days. Good news is that I finally got my rubber boots yesterday from a store called Canadian Tire, bad news is that as youve probably noticed Im not gonna be able to write daily, but I promise Ill try to do it as often as I can, especially on the boat because of the limited Internet connection. Well, thank you for your comments and please keep following us. Also you should keep an eye on the Cape farewell blog were there should be more pictures and comments from everyone. Thanks!

Primer Dia - First Day
El primer día comenzó muy temprano. Nos despertamos a las 5 de la mañana y nos dirigimos al aeropuerto. Allí nos encontramos y el avión despegó alrededor de las 9. Cuatro horas y media mas tarde nuestra aventura realmente comenzó. Un divertido oficial de migración nos dio la bienvenida a Canadá diciendonos que no podía dejar que Carlos entrara al país, ya que tiene quince, pero en el momento no nos reimos. Luego llegaron nuestras maletas y el brillante color azul del signo nos esperaba fuera. Un locuaz conductor nos llevó hasta el lago Saint George, nuestra estancia, donde nos reunimos 7 de los otros estudiantes y la mayoría del personal. Es un hermoso lugar con los árboles y los mosquitos. Desde luego, no esperaba este calor. Mañana vamos a conocer al resto de los estudiantes y les diremos cómo nos va.

After four and a half hours later our adventure really started. A funny migration officer welcomed us into Canada by telling us he couldn´t let Carlos into the country since he is fifteen, but at the time we didn´t really laugh. We then got our bags and found the bright blue color of the Cape Farewell sign waiting for us outside.
A very talkative driver took us to Lake Saint George, our staying place, were we met 7 of the other students and most of the staff. It is a beautiful place with loads of trees and mosquitoes. We certainly didn´t expect this hot weather. Tomorrow we should meet all the rest of the students and well tell you how that goes.
