Tantas cosas que contar-So many things to post

Yes I’m back and no, I didn’t freeze.

As I walked back into school with 11 hours of sleep in between 3 days, but with my chin up feeling like a rock star, I pronounced the words above. People actually asked” Hey are you back?” and “You didn’t freeze?”

Although silly questions at first, I thought about them (since they were asked so often) and found them deeper than I had thought. First, because I’m actually not completely back. My soul is still wandering somewhere around Qikiqtarjuaq, and my heart has lost 46 pieces, which are all spread around the world, as corny as it sounds. The second one I respond with a “no I didn’t turn into ice, obviously” though in my mind I remember that, for a minute, sitting on the zodiac with my socks soaked after doing the polar dip, I felt I was.

So now I look almost the same on the outside, but I have changed, and as I learned there, there are details behind everything. So I see my friends a different way, my surroundings a different way. There is a new guy at school from Austria, and he is now a good friend. This is because there, I learned how to open myself up in two days. I get a bit melancholic talking with him in English, because it reminds me so much about all of you. Although I repeat the german Josh taught me, he doesn’t understand I don’t know why. I have also learned to look more around me, when I do so, I feel special in between 30 million people, and I’m hoping you get to feel like this someday in this huge and great city. Still, the one that means the most to me, is that as I arrived in my house, I learned that I do have a great passion about this issue, which I didn’t feel to its fullest while being in the Arctic, because I was there. Now I’m away, and I feel like jumping in a van to go plant some trees. Changing light bulbs shall do for now, and I hope you feel as passionate.

Now going back to my responses, I guess the hardest question to answer is “ How was it?”, it is so simple it is annoying. Usually simple questions are asking for a simple answer, and people just ask me this as small talk. The problem is I lived so much, I changed so much and I want to tell so much about it I almost stay speechless. Then I implode, and the shortest answer I can give is “ I can’t describe it in 5 minutes, but it was the best time of my life”

And now I got people’s attention, and I’ll make sure they hear.

This is only my first post, and we’ll keep in touch, because there are so many things I want to tell you, so many people I want to thank. But I feel a bit like in a Grammy speech, when they turn the orchestra on you. So for now I’ll just say thank you and, I miss you.
